If you haven’t heard yet, Nate Marquardt wasn’t medically cleared to fight tonight and was subsequently cut from the UFC. Dana White announced it in a 15-second video following the weigh-ins yesterday and the boss sounds kinda pissed here:
As I write this at about 4:30pm, we’re waiting for a representative from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission to talk to the media. As soon as the sites we follow get something, we’ll pass it along. Although, I can’t imagine that there’s much the rep will be able to say. Marquardt’s medical records will be confidential, so we won’t know the exact reason he was declared unfit to fight unless he or his people say something. When someone finally does say something, we’ll probably know why he was cut as well. It’s not fair to either Marquardt or White to speculate on what lead to his dismissal from the UFC, so I won’t comment on the rumor mill here. The only thing Nate’s said was this tweet from about noon today:
Our picks for this ever-evolving card are after the jump.
UPDATE; Finally got some word from someone. However, Ariel Helwani couldn’t get much more than we expected out of the PSAC rep. Quick summary: Marquardt failed his medical requirements, they gave him as much time as they could to get in order. He couldn’t and is now on indefinite suspension.
