NFL Week 16 Picks

Are we really heading into Week 16 of the NFL season? Is there really only two weeks remaining in the regular season?

Here’s what could happen in these final two weeks: We could have a Manning-less postseason. The Chargers could miss the playoffs for the first time since 2005. The NFC West could have three teams finish at 7-9, and one of them will have to make the playoffs. The Cincinnati Bengals will go from division favorites to second worst team in the NFL (It’s like Batman and Robin raped Gotham for four months).

Week 15 was only slightly less exciting than Week 14 had been, but it was still one to remember. The Eagles trailed the Giants 31-10 with 8:17 left in the game and WON! DeSean Jackson ran a punt into the end zone as time expired to give the Eagles the 38-31 victory.

Devin Hester broke the NFL record with his 14th kick/punt return TD. The record is impressive enough, but it’s amazing when considering that he’s done it in only 74 career games (Brian Mitchell had his 13 in 223 games over 15 seasons).

The New England Patriots continued their tear by squeaking past the Packers (sans Aaron Rodgers). It was the Patriots’ 6th straight game without a turnover, and Tom Brady’s 9th straight without an INT.

The Steelers lost 22-17 against the Jets. A 4th QTR safety forced the Steelers to play a hurry up offense and Big Ben threw two incomplete passes in the end zone. Sadly, had the safety not occurred, a FG would have been enough to send the game into OT.

And I haven’t even mentioned that Donovan McNabb (you know, the guy who led the Eagles to 5 NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl and recently signed a contract extension worth $16 million a year) was relegated to 3rd string QB this week. He says that he felt “disrespected” by how the move was handled. I think every Redskins fan in the country should feel disrespected at how Dan Snyder has run the team from the start.

The Panthers won for only the second time this season, the Bengals for the 3rd time, the Lions and Bills for the 4th time, and the Cowboys for the 5th time. It was truly a remarkable week…unless you were trying to pick the winners.

Okay, so it wasn’t our finest week, but with the amount of craziness going on in recent weeks it shouldn’t be surprising. We were 4-5 on our unanimous picks and each of us went 3-3-1 in the other games. Let’s see if we can’t get our act together this week.

Week 16 Picks (spread as of Tuesday)
Game T.J. Casey Armondo Commentary
Panthers at Steelers -14.5 Panthers Panthers Panthers Not that Pittsburgh will lose, but this offense doesn’t look like it can beat anyone by 2 TDs.
Cowboys at Cardinals +6.5 Cowboys Cowboys Cowboys Arizona just lost to the Panthers. Do I need to say anything else?
Patriots at Bills +8 Patriots Bills Patriots Buffalo is 4-2 in their past 6 games, but New England is 6-0 over the same period.
Jets at Bears -1 Jets Jets Bears Can the Jets resurrect their offense enough to get past Chicago?
Ravens at Browns +3.5 Ravens Ravens Ravens The Baltimore D has looked suspect at times, but is still one of the best in the NFL.
Titans at Chiefs -5 Titans Titans Titans After dismantling the Texans, Tennessee will try to end the Chief’s division reign.
49ers at Rams -2.5 49ers Rams Rams If anyone in the NFC West is gonna finish above .500, this will determine it.
Lions at Dolphins +3.5 Lions Lions Lions The Lions road woes are over! And they’re 10-4 against the spread this season (best in the NFL).
Redskins at Jaguars -7 Jaguars Jaguars Redskins The Jags will need to win out if they wanna make the playoffs. And they know it.
Chargers at Bengals +7.5 Chargers Chargers Chargers The Bolts have been bad on the road. The Bengals have been bad everywhere.
Texans at Broncos +3 Texans Texans Texans Orton is apparently upset that Tebow is starting at QB. Houston is upset that they can’t play defense.
Colts at Raiders +3 Colts Colts Raiders The Colts have to keep pace with Jacksonville. And the injuries keep piling up.
Giants at Packers EVEN Giants Giants Packers If the Packers win, their playoff hopes are alive. If the Giants win, the Pack is out.
Seahawks at Buccaneers -6.5 Bucs Seahawks Bucs TB hasn’t won against a quality opponent. Does Seattle count as “quality”?
Vikings at Eagles EVEN Eagles Eagles Eagles The Eagles have scored 4TDs in their last 8:17 of play. Minnesota hasn’t done that in their last 2 games.
Saints at Falcons -2.5 Falcons Falcons Falcons The last game was decided by 3pts. The Falcons are 4-0 in games decided by 4 or less.

That’s all for this week’s picks. Remember that if you just can’t Bang enough, you can catch us on the weekly BangCast. We’ll be Bang-ing over the holidays with our Year End Awards for MMA and everything else. That’s right, we’re giving our Bangers away over the holidays so no one has to miss us.

Merry Christmas.
