Gonna make this one short and sweet, as I got some Wii’in to do. Mario Kart here I come!
HW: Bobby Lashley vs. Chad Griggs
Lashley is a beast, and will one day be the champion of some non-UFC promotion. I said it, and I stand by it. Wrestling is king nowadays, especially when it’s backed up by a dude with a willingness and adeptness to learn some solid jiu-jitsu along the way. (See Shields, Jake) Lashley will finish, probably by a RNC, then call-out Fedor again. Maybe he’ll at least get Cormier after he shellacs Griggs, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Rogers either. (PS: This is TOTALLY not a race thing. It’s just coincidence. Totally.)
WINNER: Bobby Lashley
LW: Jorge Gurgel vs. KJ Noons
Gurgel was cool with the extra .25lbs, but he won’t be cool with the Grade-A ass-whupping he’s gonna get. And the ‘A’ is for ‘Ass’, which would make it a Grade-Ass ass-whupping. Just go with it. Maybe Karl James will get a shot at the strap once Gil Melendez is healthy… eh? Eh?
WINNER: KJ Noons
Vacant MW Title: Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Tim Kennedy
Recent wins over Trevor Prangley and Nick Thompson boost Kennedy’s value here, although Jacare has had some quality wins as well. I think Kennedy has good enough defense to somewhat-neutralize Souza’s sub attempts, while catching him with some good striking to boot. Plus I think he has slightly more momentum coming into this one. Close match, probably going all 5, but Kennedy comes out on top.
WINNER, AND NEW MW CHAMP: Tim Kennedy
LHW Title: Muhammed Lawal vs. Rafael “Feijao” Calvalcante
I really hate how he’s referred to as “King Mo” instead of a nickname preceding his real name. Same thing with Mirko Filipovic. Well it ends here. There will be no “King Mo” in this prediction. Muhammed will dominate, just like Muhammed does, with world-class wrestling and just-enough striking to point. No finish here, just some good ol’ fashioned lay/pray. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s proven a very effective way to win fights (see Fitch, Jon), but not so much when someone does it better than you (see SP, G).
WINNER, AND STILL LHW CHAMP: Muhammed Lawal
So it wasn’t short at all… but DAMN was it sweet. Get out the brooms kids.
